Planters

I am not sure how long they would last, but these book planters look lovely. These would be great decorations for an event.

Comic book wallet

This fantastic wallet was made simply from a comic book. Of course, you could use any book pages, either with pictures or plain text. Instructions are found at readymade.com.
If that looks to hard there are versions made simply using duct tape that you buy or watch a video on how to make.

Weekend reading

Here in Sydney it looks like we are finally going to get the heat and sunshine we have been waiting weeks for. I am hoping for a long overdue trip to the beach, the first of the season.
In reality, with two young children I am guessing I won't get to do much reading until the sun has set.

Where are you planning on reading?

Children's book spaces at home

These pictures show a great way to display books for little children. They are much more likely to choose a book when they can see the cover rather than the spine only.
The book covers framed on the wall also contribute to make a great reading theme.
I have way too many children's book to display them this way. I have them in shelves and each week put the favourites and a selection of others in a basket, like the idea shown here.

Books are a bed of imagination

I have blogged about book themed bed sheets and pajamas before. This time the entire bed appears like a book and appears like something I would love to tuck myself into.
There are two imagines, which I believe where captured by a photographer named Yusuke Suzuki. While in one image invididuals are sleeping in this book bed that fits many, in the second it is being opened up to show colourful images that look like they represent a vivid imagination.
I like this pictures, to me one shows the peace you can get from a book, slipping away from the rest of the world like you do as you sleep. In the other it shows how we are drawn into books and although they may be written in words, they open up bright pictures in our minds.

Karl Lagerfeld with a library bag?

Look, it's Karl Lagerfeld with a library bag.
The concept isn't that far fetched as the man does have a beautiful library stocked with 60,000 books. Featured on The Selby, a search found some other images of his book collection along with the quote, "Books are a hard-boud drug with no danger of an overdose. I am the happy victim of books."

I am sure there is an interview somewhere that accompanied some of these images, I'll keep looking.

A visit to Storybook garden

One recent weekend I visited the Hunter Valley Gardens north of Sydney. Within the themed areas of this fantastical place lies storybook garden. After walking past a stack of giant books, including an open page od Jack and the beanstalk you can wander past large characters from well known children's stories and nursery rhymes. Each display has an open book with an excerpt next to the characters you know.

Alice at the Mad Hatter's Tea party looked like a photo favourite for most visitors. I only read Alice's adventures earlier this year and, funnily enough, my son's preschool class read it later in the week, so he finally realised where the amusing characters fitted in.

Books as steps

The Greenville Literary Association the books as steps design on the left as an advertisement to attract book donations. While the ones on the right appear to be in someone's house. I have seen books stored under stairs before and the decal shown below uses this concept without the need to remodel your stairs. The giant book steps are lead to the Kansas City library.
