The Greenville Literary Association the books as steps design on the left as an advertisement to attract book donations. While the ones on the right appear to be in someone's house. I have seen books stored under stairs before and the decal shown below uses this concept without the need to remodel your stairs. The giant book steps are lead to the Kansas City library.

I think giant book steps leading to a library or bookstore are a great idea, but wouldn't want to store books under the steps in my home, it'd look too cluttered.
