Golden days

There is a book fair nearby in a few days and I am hoping to find some Golden books for Oskar and Matilda. You can still buy Golden books, I was given a recently printed copy of the 1950 classic title The Fire Engine Book, but these are hard to find. Of those in abundance in the stores, Disney themes dominate, with their ubiquitous cartoon, and others that lack much of a story line (try flicking through There's a Monster at the End of this Book).

Frankie magazine featured a Golden Book collection in its December issue and it particularly made me want to read Scruffy the Tugboat, Pepper Plays Nurse and Colours are Nice again. What's your favourite Golden Book?

I love Little Golden Books and I especially enjoy giving them to my nieces for presents. My favourite is probably The Saggy Baggy Elephant. :)

Krissy B: I had that one as a little girl and managed to buy a copy for only a few cents at a rural library (Bega) a couple of years ago. It was also the first book my mother remembers having :)

Our daughter has a regular supply of Little Golden Books thanks to a generous grandma - whilst we've read the Saggy Baggy Elephant and Poky Little Puppy, by far her favourites are Good Night, Little Bear and The Little Red Hen. She'll even drag them over for us to read and keep turning the pages back to her favourite pictures.
