A rainbow of books

Chris Cobb arranged 20 000 books in a San Francisco bookshop by colour to create an art installation titled There is nothing wrong in this whole wide world. Thinking it looked gorgeous, I set about doing the same in my apartment. Now, having moved and bought a new bookcase, I have unpacked, arranged and photographed them again. I always remember a book by its cover and cull our collection regularly, so it is not difficult to know where to find a book when you need it.

Whiteboard Writing

Seen on a whiteboard outside a shop today:

"If youth, good looks, talent, fame and fortune aren't enough, no wonder the rest of us get into trouble from time to time."

Stockholm Public Library

Looking for an image of a library for a lecture last year I found these amazing pictures of the Stockholm Public Library. This beautifully designed building and colourful collection of books made me want to visit my local library and return with a stack of books and, of course, add Sweden to a list of places I must one day visit.

Bearded Men - the Way of the Future?

In 1933 the following book describes the quintessential male of the future. The blog I found this on, Paleo-Future, is absolutely entertaining. How did the past think we would live today?

Book Excerpt from Exit to Tomorrow: World's Fair Architecture, Design, Fashion 1933-2005.
Gilbert Rhode banishes buttons, pockets, collars, ties. The man of the next century will revolt against shaving and wear a beautiful beard, says the designer of boilers, pianos, clocks, and metal furniture. His hat will be an an antennae - snatching radio out of the ether. His socks disposable, his suit minus tie collar and buttons.

Mornings and evenings

Stephanie and Mav are two women who like early mornings. They live 3191 miles apart, and for the past year have each taken a photo and posted it on their photo blog, 3191: a year of mornings. The photos show the beauty and simplicity of the early mornings I wish I had. While the year is now complete, a book of their photos is due to be published in 2008 and a new series of photos, 3191: a year of evenings begins on January 15.

Media Coverage in Brazil

I received an email from a new Booktagger in Brazil who said he found us through a feature in his favorite magazine: Carta Capital. Consequently, there have been a few books by Brazilian authors and a bit of Portuguese language on Booktagger. Time to get started translating!
